X is for eXtras

It's April and that means the A to Z Blogging Challenge!
This year my theme is film terms.

An extra is a person who appears in a movie in a non-specific, non-speaking, unnoticed, or unrecognized character role, such as part of a crowd or background.

They are often used in restaurant scenes, battles scenes and city street scenes.

When Harry Met Sally (1989)

Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Groundhog Day (1993)

Forrest Gump (1994)

  1. It's fun being an extra ("background talent") in films, but I think the funnest time was when I was an extra in a TV commercial for a local theme park (Lagoon). I rode one rollercoaster seven times in a row as they shot from different angles. The gal next to me got a migraine from it, but I was begging for more.
