Z is for Zoptic Special Effects

It's April and that means the A to Z Blogging Challenge!
This year my theme is film terms.

Zoptic special effects is a revolutionary special effects, 3-D process invented by cameraman Zorian Perisic, incorporating a camera system and a projector with synchronized zoom lenses to create the illusion of movement in depth. One example is Superman (1978) in which a projected background scene remains constant while the camera zooms in on the foreground subject to give the appearance of Superman flying.

  1. When life slows down which is an impossibility, I plan to come back and read all your posts. I'm glad I came across your blog. I knew much of what you defined but there were some points I learned.
I'm wanting to make a film. I'm at a disadvantage in that I take care of several handicapped people and am limited in my learning curve. So I am cobbling together what I have learned.
I just hope to meet up with competent people when I get serious. People are so hungry to make films, they crowd one another out. Even though the worst I met was a woman, I want to make room for other women like myself.

    1. Ann, I know what you mean about life crowding out what we want to do. I read a wonderful article the other day about making movies. It basically said, JUST DO IT. Each time you make a movie, you learn something new. It can be five minute short, but sit down, write the story, and make the movie. The more movies you make, the more you will discover what your strenghts and weaknesses are. I've leared that my strenghts in filmmaking are story-telling and writing the screenplay. My weaknesses are technical (learning editing software, working on sound recordings, etc.) I'm not a techie. But I am learning. I wish you all the best.

  2. Great theme! And fantastic topic for Z. If I had learned about Zoptic special effects (in school), I must have forgotten it... the term did not seem familiar to me.

(I love that particular Superman film!)

Congrats on reaching the end of the challenge! (How did you do that while working on your own film?)

    1. Trudy, I didn't know about Zoptic SFX until I found it on a cinematic terms website. But I needed a Z word for the challenge and didn't want to do Zoom shot. I scheduled my posts so they were written ahead of time. That's the only way I could do this challenge. Congrats on completing it. I loved your theme!

  3. Cool! I always just assumed he was in front of a big green screen and they animated the rest!

    1. Stephanie, I thought the same thing. It seems pretty complicated though.
