V is for Van Tassell

Welcome to the 2015 A to Z Blogging Challenge! Each day for the month of April I will be posting alphabetically from A to Z and my theme is Wyoming.

Van Tassell holds the distinction of being the least populous town in the least populous county of the least populous state in the United States. Located in Niobrara County Wyoming, Van Tassell was named for cattleman R.S. Van Tassell and a post office was established in the town in 1910. As of the 2013 census, the population of Van Tassell, Wyoming is 15.

Have you ever been to Van Tassell?

  1. So it's no wonder I've never heard of or visited the "town" of Van Tassell. Population 15! Holy smokes. I host almost fifteen people at my dinner table every night! LOL.

  2. Whoa, that town is small, to say the "least." hahaha

And I had to laugh at jaybird's comment! Maybe the entire population of Van Tassell should invite themselves to dinner at her place.

    1. Population seems to be a big issue in Wyoming. Wide open spaces and not a lot of people. Ys gotta be tough to handle this wild western state. Lol.

  3. Wow! That is a small town! I've been through WY and it seemed to be mostly rolling hills and prairie land with an ocassional windmill and not much else. I need a few more people around than that.

    1. Sunni we are pretty small. But Cheyenne has about 80,000 if you count nearby county residents. People from Cheyenne drive the 90 miles to Denver, Colorado if they want a taste of big city life.

  4. Do the taxes for a "town" that size even cover the cost of that sign?

  5. CD! Lol. I don't know but that's a good question.

  6. I have not been there - but it's a great name for a very cool place. Talk about knowing your neighbors!

    1. Craig, yeah. That is so strange. What actually makes an actual town? A post office? A mayor?
