Wyoming was one of the locations in Quentin Tarantino's film "Django Unchained." The winter scenes were shot at Grand Teton National Park near Jackson Hole. In the movie, you can see breathtaking shots of the elk refuge and the magnificent Grand Tetons. Unfortunately, the Wyoming Film Commission doesn't offer the best incentives for filmmakers so they go to New Mexico or Canada. Some films set in Wyoming but not shot in Wyoming include "An Unfinished Life," "Unforgiven," "Brokeback Mountain" and "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" - just to name a few.
Do you like Western movies?
I am a huge Quentin Tarantino fan, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching Django Unchained. His next film, The Hateful Eight, can't come soon enough. :D
ReplyDeleteMichael, I'm looking forward to the new film as well. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteStill haven't seen Django, though I like Westerns and Tarantino. I'll get to it one day!
ReplyDeleteC.D., there's something about Westerns films. I think it has a lot to do with the wide open spaces and scenic landscapes. And horses.
DeleteI never saw this movie. I know my husband LOVED it though. It know it was nominated and won a lot of awards.
ReplyDeleteJaybird, yes it was quite unique. It's actually a love story. That is what the whole movie is about.
DeleteLoved that film! Offering good incentives is crucial if you want to encourage films to come to your locations. And a place like Wyoming has glorious landscapes that should be in movies. We get people coming to New Zealand to shoot westerns (like Slow West) because NZ offers good incentives.
ReplyDeleteKate, yes we really need to get better incentives for filmmakers in Wyoming. I'm impressed with the beauty of New Zealand as well.
DeleteYou and I have been very vocal in our love for Django Unchained - and I'm pleased you found a way to spotlight it here in your Wyoming A-Z.
