I don't know why, but back in the 60s the opening credits for movies were amazing! I love the combination of music, art and storytelling captured in those magical two minutes before the movie starts. The theme from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) will always be linked to Clint Eastwood. Here's to the Spaghetti Western!
YouTube won't let me embed the video but CLICK HERE to see the coolest opening credits EVER!
Yeah they are some corker good credits! Guys like Maurice Binder and Saul Bass really took the opening credits to a new artform. My wife hates opening credits, and tries to arrange to miss them by getting a drink or some such. She then depends on me to identify every actor she sees...ah well, what can I say - some people were meant to be together! ;)
ReplyDeleteCraig: I'm one of those people who loves opening credits. It's part of the movie, sets the tone and mood of what we're about to see. I have to give kudos to The Lincoln Lawyer with Matthew McConaughey. The opening credits were amazing! Aerial shots of the roads of the city like a map combined with graphics presented the idea of traveling the streets...the Lincoln Lawyer is about a lawyer who works from his car - a Lincoln Continental. So cool.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Credits from the 60s and 70s were great. So was this movie. Cheesy but great. LOL
ReplyDeleteZelda: Clint was amazing back in the day. I liked him best in the Spaghetti Westerns and in the Dirty Harry movies.
ReplyDeleteI've owned the soundtrack of The Good The Bad And The Ugly for many years and I never get tired of listening to it.
ReplyDeleteEnnio Morricone's a genius.
On the subject of opening credits Luana have you seen Leone's Once Upon A Time In The West ? The opening credits last for almost 10 minutes, which must make them some of the longest in movie history.
Paul: I will totally check it out. It's like a mini-movie.
