A Train Wreck

Boy oh boy, there's nothing like a train wreck sequence!

It all started with Buster Keaton's The General (1926)

The Bridge Over the River Kwai (1957)

Silver Streak (1976)

Runaway Train (1985)

Back to the Future III (1990)

The Fugitive (1993)

Unstoppable (2010)

Super 8 (2011)

  1. I do enjoy a good train wreck - in movies. I would add The Cassandra Crossing to your list, since the entire movie is a build up to a big train wreck at the end (spoiler alert!) I've seen all of these movies except Unstoppable, and I liked all of them except Super 8.

  2. Craig, I haven't seen The Cassandra Crossing...will check it out. Yeah, Super 8 wasn't top on my list, either.

  3. Hey, I really like Super 8!

The crazy thing is that the earlier examples were done with models and even real trains, whereas the more modern examples were mostly CGI. Blowing up a real train is way more impressive.

What happened to Morgan and Diane?

  4. CD, Yes, blowing up real trains is impressive. I miss the old school way of doing things sometimes. Morgan and Diane was accidentally deleted by me. YOIKS!

  5. My favorite is Buster Keaton in The General. Classic.

(Just a few days after you posted this, Amtrak had a major train wreck. Cue the eerie music!)

    1. Trudy, I first saw Buster Keaton films in a film class I took in college. He blew me away. I'm a fan. I hadn't heard about the train wreck. Strange indeed.

    2. I love Buster Keaton. There is a place near me that shows silent movies while a gifted organist plays an antique Wurlitzer. So much fun to go there!
